Ballast wagon restoration

This weekend saw the start of the second ballast wagon of three receiving a long-awaited rub down. Volunteers started by scraping off the flaky rust and work wear before going over with a wire wheel in an angle grinder.

One side of the sole bar and wheel has now received metal undercoat, much work is needed to get the last two unrestored ballast wagons back into working order. These two wagons along with the Dogfish ballast wagon, restored this time last year, are in high demand with Boughton station loop being laid at the moment.

Work will continue every Sunday at Boughton Sidings to restore these wagons and have them used for what they were made for, so if anyone could help in restoring these wagons please feel free to come down and lend a hand.
